EGR System Development Engineer

Waterloo, Iowa
Currently looking for an EGR System Development Engineer to fill an opening with a company located in Waterloo, IA. Interested candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering and have a minimum of 3 years of experience with diesel engines or diesel engine component design, development, and qualification.
Responsibilities of the EGR System Development Engineer:
  • Take responsibility to identify, monitor, and correct component issues during a development project
  • Work with PV&V to create a robust verification plan for the component development project
  • Contribute to component sizing/design/capability/control to meet program requirements
  • Collaborate with internal resources and suppliers on EGR system performance and durability model development
  • Define specifications for EGR system components to allow the engine system to meet performance and durability goals
  • Provide technical assistance to internal project teams related to EGR system component integration and controls

Requirements of the EGR System Development Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering or other relevant discipline with relevant work experience
  • Three or more years of experience with diesel engines or diesel engine component design, development, and qualification that demonstrates a strong technical proficiency in engines and/or engine components
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve problems, think critically, and generate conclusions/solutions from technical data
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute action plans in situations of ambiguity
  • Demonstrated effective technical communication (verbal and written) and documentation/knowledge management skills
  • Basic technical knowledge of air/EGR and other engine systems
  • Background in relevant engineering specialties (thermodynamics, fluids, metallurgy, heat transfer, etc.) necessary to develop EGR system components
  • Available to travel 10-20% of time both domestically and internationally
What Makes You Stand Out:
  • Previous experience with EGR cooler, EGR valve, or mechatronic control development
  • Experience interacting with suppliers to integrate highly engineered purchased components
  • Technical project management experience
  • EGR cooler-specific failure mode understanding/anticipation/prevention
  • EGR valve, intake/exhaust throttle-specific failure mode understanding/anticipation/prevention
  • Knowledge and experience with simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, GT-Suite, CFD/FEA)
  • Understanding of principles of design for reliability, reliability prediction/analysis, and validation/verification practices
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles
  • Basic understanding of electronic actuation/motors and their control
  • Diesel engine calibration experience
